Founded in 1949, the South Butler Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency services. Its equipment includes engines and recue, command and squad vans. The department s vehicles feature generators, refrigerators, radios, electric power plants, smoke ejectors, cutters, tool boxes, extension hoses, rescue vests, bottle jacks and stretchers. The South Butler Volunteer Fire Department also provides chain and vent saws, pre-connected attack lines, computers, thermal imaging cameras, and roof, extension and attic ladders. It offers T-shirts and organizes fundraising programs. The department has more than 25 members who serve over 17,000 individuals in Butler, Pa. The South Butler Volunteer Fire Department additionally provides training sessions in vehicle and rope rescue operations.
