If you want to pay a ton of money to a trainer who you think you'll see just once a week, and ignore you the rest of the time, this is NOT the place to go. I've only been a client for a month and, not counting the initial evaluation in my home, Garry has been to my house 3 times for one-on-one training, I've gone to his Byron training field every weekend (and I'm welcome to go during the week to his other locations, but I work) AND he'll text me during the week to make sure I'm working with Ranger. He doesn't just want your business, he really wants your dog to succeed in whatever program you are in whether its obedience, protection or, in my case, both. Which I see as just good business smarts. I'm sure he doesn't want someone with an out-of-control dog telling people his dog was trained by NorCal K9.

I was also impressed with the initial meeting and evaluation. The actual testing of Ranger's prey drive only took about 5 minutes, and I was waiting for Garry to say something like "he's trainable, sign my contract and write me a check". But Garry and one of his decoy's stayed at my house for about one and a half hours answering all my many, many questions.

I can be an uppity prude, so I was initially turned off by his backwards hat, tattoos and smoking (which he NEVER does in my house or yard), but I'm glad I did not judge this book by his cover.

The other clients at the training fields in Byron (I can't speak for his other locations as I haven't been to them), are friendly and supportive. Everyone knows that each dog learns at a different rate and there is no judging or competitiveness.
