I contracted with K&K forest products to thin some of the red pine on my property. Went under contract for removal or both quality timber and scrag. The terms of the contract stated they would remove "every third row , every third tree." And I was assured they would not remove two consecutive rows of trees, that the fire lanes would not be destroyed and that all sellable wood harvested would be removed from the property. When they finished, the property looked like a war zone. The fire lane was completely wiped out, they removed consecutive rows in multiple areas and left cords of wood strewn across the property. Uprooted trees were left in my driveway and they ran over my gate post. Through phone conversations with the Forester and a visit by the company owners, the drive was graded and the gate post replaced, but there was no clean up of the wood left on the property and only a simple apology for the fire lane. Furthermore the weigh slips indicated that no scrag had been removed or sold. I was told by the company owner that scrag had to measure 7 feet in length to be sellable. Believe me , there are plenty of 7 foot logs left about. Looks like a job half done. Beware.

In August I contracted with K&K Forest Products to thin the red pine on my property. After walking the property with Bill, he indicated that he thought the logging operation could net 200 cords. That was only an estimate and not an official cruise. This was a second commercial thinning - the previous thinning tool 1/3 of the pines. The thinning by K&K was to take 1/2 of the remaining trees. I asked that a small area not be logged and the loggers also did not venture into an area that in their estimation was more work than it was worth. I ended up being compensated for 100 cords of pine - a far cry from the estimate of 200 cords. Since there was not a cruise done on the stand I cannot dispute the tally. It is fair to say that I was disappointed with the harvest, given that the estimate was twice what the actual harvest was,

As a corollary, multiple phone messages to to the principals were never returned (too busy!) Additionally, four appointments to review the operation and to address the deplorable condition in which the service road into my property was left were missed by the initiating forester, Bill. I advise caution.
