Southern Peaks Regional Treatment Center, located in Canon City, Colo., is a more than 150-bed facility that functions as a treatment alternative to incarceration for adolescents. The inmates are referred through the Colorado Department of Human Services and Colorado Department of Youth Corrections. The center offers specialized treatment for youth in the areas of alcohol and substance abuse, and victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. The treatment is provided with moderate, specialized and intensive service level needs. It is offered to adolescent males and females of ages 12 to 18 with behavioral and psychological impairments. The treatment is given by master-level therapists who provide mental and behavioral health services for the clients. On-site psychiatrists provide treatment to inmates on an as-needed basis. The average length of treatment is six to nine months.
