I purchased a 2005 Volvo S40 on 09/16/14 from Iron Horse. Was promised that the vehicle had been inspected, tuned up, and was in excellent condition. They even promised me a 30 day warranty to back their claims. The car wouldn't start, had to be jumped, and the CHECK ENGINE light came on the next day. The vehicle began malfunctioning and losing coolant. They had "their mechanic" replace coils and CHARGED ME MONEY to get the vehicle back. Light came on the next day. When I complained I was rudely told by Greg the owner that they didn't have to do anything for me and that used cars break, but they'd look at it anyway. Brought the vehicle back and they charged me more money to change the oil (Volvo dealer refused since the drain plug had been welded onto the drain pan) and change a hose fitting. Two days later the CEL came on again and the car lost all its coolant as well. I refilled the coolant (3 gallons total in 3 weeks) and the next day the car began shuddering and blowing clouds of smoke from the exhaust. Iron Horse rep Jim told me to bring it back again but by this point I couldn't afford to keep paying them to fix issues that began during the warranty and that they hadn't been able to fix so far. They even insisted Volvo didn't know where the drain plug on the oil pan was. I brought the car to the closest Volvo dealer. The issues were multitudinous: Cam seals leaking oil into the cylinders; malfunctioning fuel pump; blown head gasket: all things their "mechanic" should have noticed. Volvo wanted to know why the radiator hose connections had been replaced without Iron Horse fixing the underlying cause, which they referred to as a band-aid repair which actually could have caused further damage to the engine. Yet each time I brought the car to them, they simply used their scanner tool to reset the error codes and remove the check engine light, which explains why it came on the day after I bought the car---It stays reset for 24-48 hours, long enough for someone to test drive and purchase a car. This dealer is using unscrupulous business practices to sell cars to unsuspecting, perhaps naive people. Cars like this are unsafe and should be repaired before being sold to the general public for full retail value. The 30 day warranty should be honored and customers shouldn't be expected to incur expenses under this warranty period. I will now have to pay approximately $3,400 to fix a $6,500 car. And I can't afford to lose $6,500 so I have no choice but to fix it.

My son recently also bought a car at almost full price as well and so far has been nothing but a headache! do not buy a car from these people!!!

Do not trust. The car they sold us had lots of hidden issues. I purchased a car from them for my daughter. Within 2,500 miles had to replace transmission, head gasket, driver window assembly, alarm module and battery. The car has left her on the side of the road 3 times. They told me the car was in excellent shape and charged almost full list price for it. Bought the car for close to 6K and had to sink another 4K into it. Had to make a choice, do I sell the car to a junk yard and write off 6K or put more money into it an hope to recoup by getting use out of it. With economic times being as hard as they are one would hope that dealerships like this one would not take advantage of people. I can and will recover from this. I feel it's important to let others know so they don't get hurt too.
