Parrish School, governed by the Carbondale Elementary School District, enrolls more than 400 students in pre-kindergarten through grade first. Founded in 1960, it provides classes in fine arts and physical education. The school also offers the Title I and reading recovery programs. Parrish School has a parent-teacher organization and the Southern Illinois Reading Recovery Training Center. It also provides the Birth to Three program. The Carbondale Elementary School District operates Thomas Elementary School, Lewis School and Carbondale Middle School.
