No major problems while renting, although other people have said apartments are a mess when moved into. My problem is with security deposit return. I was given an arbitrary amount for damages and general receipts. I got back 1/4 of my security deposit. As much as you clean, it will never be clean enough when you move out. I was charged for such minor things as dirty drip pans on stove (which were dirty when I moved in, but didn't even think to complain about), dirty air conditioner (don't know how I was supposed to clean that), and dirty windowsills (which I cleaned with bleach before I moved out -- still trying to figure that one out). I was also charged almost half of my security deposit to touch up small damage created over the course of living in the apartment for three years. My point is, document EVERYTHING. From the smallest speck of dirt to major problems. They are sneaky and will get you in the end.
