Dr. Steven R. Kleen graduated cum laude from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1979. Steve Sr. met his wife in 7th grade in Des Moines, Iowa and they married 10 years later. Two of their four children live and practice here in the area. Dr. Kristen Hughes (oldest daughter) is a Pediatrician here in Carpinteria. Dr. Steven M. Kleen (son) is now practicing with his father at Carpinteria Eye Care Center. Steve ran track and played baseball at NAU. Steve Sr. was the recipient of the Apollo Laser Award for Low Vision Excellence and Founder and President of the Retinitis Pigmentosa Fighting Blindness Inland Empire Chapter. Steve enjoys biking, going to the gym, golf, pruning roses and watching his grandchildren grow.
