Helen Keller, the famous deaf-blind author, is quoted as saying Blindness cuts us off from things, but deafness cuts us off from people. While I cant imagine what it would be like to be completely deaf, I do see the affects that even a mild-moderate hearing loss can have on regular people going about everyday life. It usually starts out as a bit of a joke, then turns embarrassing, onto frustrating, then finally depressing and lonely. The fact is, hearing loss causes one to feel isolated, often leading to depression.
