Provided by YP.comA rare gem in Castro Valley
Let me start by saying, I have lived in Castro Valley for over 13 years, and I must admit, we are NOT known for our fine dining here. While there are a number of decent restaurants, and a couple of very unique ones (JD's, Val's), there is nothing that really stands out. That is, until Genghix came along.
We first "discovered" Genghix Asian Fusion in October '07. We were really hungry one day, and had decided to go for the "all you can eat buffet", which Genghix' predecessor, Genghis Khan Kitchen, was known for. Let me say, at that point, I had lived in CV for 11 years, and had been there exactly TWICE, even though the place is spitting distance from my house. So, we were going for the quantity, not the quality.
As soon as we stepped inside, you could tell things were different. The decor was completely redone, and actually looked quite nice. Almost immediately, the hostess informed us they no longer offered the buffet, at which point we were going to leave. But, she was very pleasant, and the place did look so much better than it had, so we decided to give it a try. The "lunch specials" on the menu also sounded good, and were very reasonably priced, and we were hungry!
Let me say, I'm really glad we made that decision. The food was vastly improved, and yes I would include it in the fine dining category. Prices are a little higher than what you will find at other chinese places in CV, but what you get for your money makes it a great value. The menu selection is very unique, dishes from a variety of asian cultures, and they do a fine job on their sushi, chinese, and other asian dishes.
Hope you enjoy it as much as we do, if you decide to give it a try. They also have a great selection of desserts!
Btw, after having been there 2 times in 11 years, we have been there over 75 times in the past 2 years... if that gives you some idea of the improvement!!

Provided by YP.comI used to come here all the time when the restaurant used to be an inexpensive buffet, but I come much less often now that it is more of an upscale restaurant. But I have to say the food is pretty amazing there now, and I consider myself to be a very good judge of Asian cuisine. The sushi is wonderful, the chinese food was excellent and the sea bass was the best that I have ever tasted in my life. Way to go Castro Valley.
