Hi! I had a very unpleasant experience at Variety Connection. I went there to purchase bulbs for our chandelier, but forgot to bring one with me. They showed me the standard version, and I explained to them that the base of the bulb that I needed was wider and longer. They repeatedly told me to “do it right” and go home and bring a bulb as a sample. I guess 15 minutes of their customers’ time is meaningless to them. I was informed by them, after some polite follow-up questions, that there is a European version of the bulb that, indeed, has a wider base. Needles to say, I was interested, but then the guy in the back raised his rudeness to a new level. He was reluctant to give me the Europeans, so I asked him if they’re expensive (worst thing that could happen is I’d be out a few bucks). He explained to me that, yes, they do have the European bulbs, and no, they’re not expensive, but that they’re only for people who ARE SURE THEY NEED THEM! I guess the 15 minutes that it would take for me to go home and back (more, when there’s traffic), 15 minutes of his customer’s time, is less important than the extreme inconvenience I would cause if I ever, perish the thought, had to exchange something. Would such a thing ever occur at a chain store? Would a Home Depot employee ever tell you that they have something in stock but can’t sell it to you unless you’re SURE YOU NEED THEM?!? Forget the Variety Experience, it’s an unpleasant one. Just go to a chain store.
