The Ashley
201 Ashley Ave, Charleston, SC 29403
The Ashley has changed hands many times since it was built in 1852. Originally constructed by Alexander Black, the inventor of rice and cotton processing equipment, the property has seen many owners and renovations over its past nearly 200 years. Fortunately, the original charm, elegance, and tradition have been well preserved throughout the ages. The Initial Restoration to Bring It Back to Life After being a beloved private residence, it was initially converted into three separate apartments, the Carriage House, an apartment on the first floor of the main house, and a third dwelling that covered the second and third floor of the main home. In 1992, it was completely restored both inside and out. There was a heavy emphasis on preserving as much of the original construction as possible. The Ashley has changed hands many times since it was built in 1852.
