The Charleston Police Department offers a range of law enforcement services. It has a criminal investigation division, drug enforcement unit, and juvenile, domestic violence and crime scene sections. The department provides patrolling, risk management and information services. The Charleston Police Department also maintains traffic and highway safety divisions, as well as special enforcement and housing units. Its training section offers a variety of educational programs that focus on issues related to police administration, patrol operations, investigations, criminal laws and domestic violence. The department is a part of a METRO Drug Unit, which provides legal services for work drug cases. In addition, it operates the Citizen Police Academy, which offers training classes for businessmen, doctors, media representatives, homemakers and school teachers.
