The Division of Water and Waste Management is a part of the Department of Environmental Protection, which is administered by the state government of West Virginia. The division is responsible for the preservation and enhancement of watersheds in the state. It implements a variety of programs for controlling surface and groundwater pollution that are caused by industrial and municipal discharges. The Division of Water and Waste Management provides watershed assessment, groundwater monitoring and wetland preservation services. The division is also responsible for the proper operation of underground storage tanks and the inspection of hazardous and solid waste disposal sites.
