The Charlestown Police Department safeguards the lives and property of residents, businesses and visitors, as well as maintains social law and order. It is comprised of more than 30 sworn and reserve officers. The department operates K-9, reserve, training, records, communication and patrol divisions. The Charlestown Police Department also maintains a special operations division that provides assistance with domestic preparedness and specialized and tactical law enforcement response. It has a Special Response Team (S.R.T.) that deals with hostage and barricaded person situations, civil disturbances, high-risk warrant service and specialized surveillance duties. The department supports AMBER Alert, which is an emergency alert system that helps recover abducted children.
