This rant by the adoption "professional" does not describe my husband's and my experience with Nathanson Adoption. We had a really nice social worker, and found the agency to be very professional and accommodating.

Gosh, this doesn't make sense to me. My agency specifically recommended Nathanson for my homestudy, and we were very pleased with their service. I recommend them highly.

I am an adoption professional. I have worked in this field for over 17 years and in all that time I have never worked with a more uncooperative agency than Nathanson. Nathanson is not a Hague accredited agency. Non Hague accredited agencies can do certain parts of an international adoption (such as the home study) but they must have their work reviewed and signed off on by a Hague accredited agency. The accredited agency has an obligation to oversee the non-Hague accredited agency's work and failure to do so properly could lead to the Hague agency loosing their accreditation. Although Nathanson allowed my agency (which is Hague accredited) to read the study one time and give our feedback. They REFUSED to allow us to look at the final product to make sure all of the required pieces were in there. The Hague accredited agency has a prepare a cover letter for USCIS (immigration) in order for a home study from a non-Hague accredited agency to be accepted. It is professionally unethical to write a letter saying we approve a study when we have not seen the final draft. When I appealed to the agency from the standpoint of professional ethics - they continued to refuse to show me the final draft and the Director of Nathanson told me that my request was "unreasonable" and would create "a great deal of additional work for us." I think attaching a draft of a home study and emailing is not really a great deal of additional work. I believe that adoption agencies should be in the service of assisting adoptive families. Nathanson's refusal to work cooperatively with my agency on behalf of the family only served to hold up the family's adoption. As now I have to wait for the family to receive the study and then mail it to me so that I can see the final product and properly approve it.
