This was our 3rd time at Sugar Magnolia. On the previous 2 times the food was excellent. This time the service was excellent, the waitress was very knowlegeable, but some of the food was below par. On an earlier visit, I had had the Shrimp and Grits and they were great. Before, my wife had had the crab cakes and they were great. This time, we started with the She-Crab soup and that was good to excellent. However, the Shrimp and Grits this time were way below par. The cheese in the cheese grits must have been hiding, the shrimp were hard and over cooked. The grease from the andouille sausage overwhelmed the grits and the other ingredients. My wife's crab cakes were dry. She only ate one of the two served. We brought the second one home but have decided to throw it out because of its poor quality. Maybe, thursday is not the night to go to this restaurant. Our other two visits were on weekends. We will probably give the place one more shot, but if it doesn't improve, it's a goner for us. There are too many other excellent places around the area.
