Definitely recommendation-wort...

Definitely recommendation-worthy, but I must admit I remain a bit ambivalent about the CrossFit training paradigm. They've certainly got the intensity thing mastered, and I love the communal culture, but I've got some misgivings about 'workout of the day' workout structure. While the light weight and high rep ranges for the prescribed exercises put the training firmly in the realm of muscular endurance (vs. strength or power), the lack of rest between exercises/sets makes cardiovascular fitness a competing limiting factor. Thus, you're training both muscular endurance and cardio fitness, but you're not really doing either optimally because each of these two capacities is being limited by the other during the workout. At the end of each workout, I feel completely torched, yet unsure as to which physiological/metabolic system(s) have actually been overloaded.

I think the workouts would be more effective if divided into sets with some allocated (short) rest periods, so as to enable a higher level of intensity during each exercise. After all, recovering from an intense bout of anaerobic activity is an aerobic activity.

Still, the intensity of the workouts makes CrossFit an excellent program if you're looking to lose weight or develop military-style fitness/toughness. And if you're not familiar with how to construct a workout regimen that incorporates resistance training and cardiovascular fitness, CrossFit is a good way to get it all in one place.
