Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Visitors are presented with a cave in its natural state and our 45-minute (+/-) Crystal Palace Walking Tour allows them to view thousands of diverse formations - stalagtites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, flowstone, rimstone pools, draperies, columns, natural bridges, and a rare shield formation. We also offer a variety of wild cave "spelunking" expeditions for those who want to view beyond the lighted pathways and explore deeper into the mountain. Our Waterfall Dome expedition permits visitors to view the areas tallest underground, natural (unassisted) flowing waterfall.Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. I gave one star but shouldn't ...

I gave one star but shouldn't do even that. We stayed at the campground and while we liked the cave the staff at the campgrounds sucked. We walked into the campground office and the KID behind the counter had his feet up on the desk and was on his cell phone and actaully finished his phone call before helping us. The grounds were dirty and if you could find someone (staff) over twenty to help you, good luck. I have stayed at many campgrounds and found far better for the price. Never again. I'll be staying at KOA next time I visit TN, is ever, as some other sites had recommended instead of Raccoon Caverns

Interesting Caves

Jonathan, the tour guide, showed us around the racoon mountain caverns. He told us stories about the previous cave owners, and explained the formation of the caves. This would be the first place I would visit if I returned to Chattanooga.

Best Natural Tour EVER

The visit to Raccoon Mountain Caverns was incredible. My family, along with another gentleman, were the only people on the tour. Our guide, Jonathan, was exceptional. He took the time to point out nature within the cave, and explain the process of the cave formation.

A few years ago, we visited Ruby Falls. It was very touristy, and not nature-oriented. I would recommend this tour for anyone who wants to learn about caves.
