The previous owners of our new house had used the crawl space as a junk yard, so there was a lot of stuff, including an old hot water tank, a basketball backboard, a lot of wood scraps, etc. So my husband & I hired HR Termite to clean out the crawl space of our new house. Shannon Brown came out & gave us an estimate for $700 to clean it out (everything including the hot water tank) & to put down a moisture barrier, & said it should only take a day.
My husband was at the house when the crew showed up. He checked on the crew before leaving for work. When my husband came home from work, he saw the same pile of crap by our trash can that had been outside of the crawl space when he left – a few 2x4 boards, & some other miscellaneous but not large stuff. When he went into the crawl space to inspect it, he saw that most of the crap was still there. The moisture barrier was simply laid on top of everything including the wood (“termite bait”), & there was no overlap of moisture barrier, but rather spaces of about 6 inches b/w each strip of moisture barrier where the ground was still visible. The doors to the crawl space were left open, & there was still junk sitting outside of the crawl space door that they hadn’t moved to the trash heap. When the crew hadn’t returned by 2 days later to complete the work, I called & the secretary told me that they thought the job had been completed. Eventually, the owner sent out the same team of workers to complete the work, & the result was the same. So the owner sent Shannon back out to inspect the work, & Shannon was appalled. My husband said Shannon pulled more out from underneath the house BY HIMSELF in one hr than the other guys had pulled out in all of their previous trips. Shannon left saying that he was going to report the poor work to his manager, & they’d be sending out the guys again. To shorten the story, I think they had to come out a total of SIX times to complete the work.
HR Termite kept sending the same incompetent team of workers. The foreman told me each time that the job was finally done. When I asked him if he was sure, he pointed to the trucks piled high with trash bags. Then I asked him how he’d missed all that before, & he said it was under the leaves, & he didn’t know he was supposed to move the leaves, too. He also said that he didn’t have enough help. WOW! You don’t have enough help to complete the work, so you tell the owner that the job is done?! You also clearly don’t know HOW to do the job, so you just wing it?! I’m still perplexed at why the owners kept sending the same team of incompetent people. In the end, it took them about SIX TRIPS over SIX WEEKS to complete a job that should have taken a day. I would not recommend their services to anyone!

Hampton Roads Termite & Pest is the ONLY company that was able to treat our roach and termite problems. My husband and I purchased a house that we did not know had active termites and a roach infestation. We had several other companies (Terminix, etc) come out to treat the house, but they were rude and never addressed the problem. Additionaly, the other companies did not even notice the active termites. Our real estate agent recommended Hampton Roads Pest Control, and we have been using them for a year now. They quickly addressed our termite problem and were the only pest control company we found that helped our roach problem. The technicians are friendly and actually listen to your problem. I highly recommend them.
