Have been taking my dog there for two years. There are basically two vets that are good there. I don’t remember the guys name but he is ok and another younger looking woman was very good. However recently i went there with my sick dog who was throwing up and not eating. He was treated with anti-nausea meds and given anti-biotic pills and was told by the vet that she was on call for that weekend (i went there on Friday evening) and that I could call the answering service and she would come in and meet with us. I figured my dog was going to be fine. The next day my dog was sick again and was having bouts where he couldn’t breath. When I called the answering service they were rude while I thought my dog was dying in front of me. When the vet finally called me back her tune changed. She had plans (going to her in laws) and to just keep monitoring my dog. If your on call, aren’t you supposed to come in when you are CALLED!!! The night before the vet told me she would come right in but when I called her she didn’t want to come in. I’m sure she is getting paid to be on call so she needs to do her job!!! I’m in the military and am on call. When they call me, I go in!! She even had the nerve to tell me that she isn’t the emergency room and to call the ER and that she would text me their number. She never did by the way. (Googled it of course). If you say you’re going to do something then do it even if it inconvenients you!!!!

I have been going to CVH we moved to the shore in 1985. We have seen many changes to this area since then. One thing I can say about CVH is they have grown with the times but have never lost their loving care for your pets. We have had many pets since 1985, from Kelly, a diabetic dog who lived to be 11yrs old, Maverick who lived to be 10, and my beloved Gizmo who lived to be 14. Passed away from a brain tumor, with treatment. These dogs would not have lived to such ages if the treatment was not correct and the client care plan was not taught well. We have 4 dogs and two birds now. All are in great health. Dr. Shaw is a wonderful Avian Specialist. My cockatiel are thriving due to her great wellness care. She goes above and beyond to make sure they are in their right weight, parasites, eyes and rectal areas are in good health . She even cheeks droppings in their travel cages. I give her an A+++ rating. When you walk in you are greeted with smiles and everyone knows your name. CHEERS

I would give ZERO stars if I could

BIRD OWNERS, BEWARE of "so called" Avian specialist/Vet Dr. Shaw of Chesapeake Vet Hospital in Chester Maryland. They are HORRIBLE, Price gouging X10 extremely overpriced for inadequate services, horribly inexperienced in avian medicine I don't believe they are avian specialists at all. They almost killed my bird recently on 11/12/14 and most certainly would have had I followed their suggested "non-treatment" treatment plan costing $121 for nothing. I was asked to drop my bird off since Dr Shaw was booked and my bird was so sick, since I was an existing customer and my bird an existing patient, I did as instructed. After 6 hours had passed I was told all was well and to pick-up my bird. The charge for this days services ( actually non-service).. $121. Here is where the price gouging comes in, $30 of this charge was for a petri dish of cane sugar mixed w/tap water that my poor bird was too sick to drink, yet they claimed they saw her drink and showed no signs of illness, yeah right and then the additional $91 was for the apparent non-observation/exam by Dr Shaw (no fecal, saliva or blood tests were done, no on-site medical treatment, no meds, NOTHING medically was done, even though I pre-authorized any testing, treatment, what ever was needed when I dropped her off) Yet when I got her home and tried feeding her the same sugar water she immediately vomited it up just as she was doing prior to dropping her off. I truly doubt she was observed/examined at all. The next day after seeing Dr Shaw now with my bird near death, I took my bird to Midshore Vet in Easton for evaluation/second opinion. Turned out my bird tested positive with a severe life threatening infection called "Candidiasis" of her lungs and digestive tract and would have died within 1 or 2 days had I not taken her to Midshore where she received emergency treatment. After several visits to Chesapeake Anim. Hosp. over 10 years, each costing from $121-$200 + per visit for the same horrible inadequate service (actually non-service, non-treatment they only advise) and this their final failure, I have officially fired them..BEWARE, PLEASE, for your pet birds sake DON'T USE THEM).

"MIDSHORE VETERINARY SERVICE IN EASTON IS THE VERY BEST AVIAN VET IN THE AREA" I STRONGLY URGE YOU USE THEM.

Dr McConkey of Midshore Vet was amazing. She is truly an Avian Specialist who is extremely knowledgeable and saved my 14 yr old Lori parrot "Herkie" from certain death , I will forever be thankful to her. Their pricing is equally amazing, I was seen on the same day without additional emergency fees being charged, overall they charge 1/2 the cost of Chesapeake Vet Hospital. Midshore vets staff was also knowledgeable, kind and compassionate. I strongly suggest you take your bird to none other in this area, no matter the commute if you love your pet, its worth it.
