My terrible experience with "Honest" Guys

I am not one to complain or vent, but I felt strongly that my terrible encounter with this company warranted sharing to provide potential future customers with the benefit of my experience. I was referred to Honest Guys by my home warranty provider, and due to lack of reviews and feedback from others, I didn’t know to stay away and request another contract service provider. Hopefully this will help others to make a better-informed decision than I was allowed.
Honest Guys was sent to repair my furnace in November 2017 (by my home warranty company). Scheduling was easy and they do have a good text notification system of technician arrival time. When the technician arrived, and first saw the thermostat, the first red flag was raised. He seemingly had never seen this type of thermostat before and fumbled around trying to dismiss the failure notice and reset the call for heat. I literally had to do that for him. Then we go down to basement for him to look at our Carrier Infinity ICS furnace. He is able to read the blinking lights to interpret the related fault code, but his familiarity with how to address that code seemed non-existent. The Tech then hits the Reset Limit Switch, powers the furnace back on, and viola, the furnace is heating again.
Without further diagnosis, and after collecting the warranty deductible fee, the “Honest Guys” Technician leaves. No diagnosis, no parts replaced, no nothing else! Now, I’m no certified HVAC technician, but it seems you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that hitting a reset switch is a far stretch away from root cause analysis. But oh well, it was working at the moment, what could I do? The Tech then tries to sell me a service contract from their company, not terribly high pressure. No thanks, I have that covered. Before leaving, he then explicitly tells me… “if you have any further problems, give us a call first (not warranty company) and we will take care of it, you won’t have to pay another deductible”. He explicitly told me that.
I have some business travel and there is limited use of the furnace for a few weeks, so fast forward a few weeks to the 1st really cold day of the season, Dec 1, 2017 and what to you know, the furnace stops working again, go figure! I call Honest Guys back directly; same easy scheduling and notification system. A different Tech arrives the next day. At first, I felt a bit more comfortable, this guy seems to be familiar with the Thermostat and is seemingly more experienced than the first. That comfort immediately evaporated as the Technician launches a more aggressive pitch to buy a service contract from them. Uh no, let’s get this issue diagnosed and resolved first.
The second Tech goes on to interpret the fault codes, powers furnace off, finds some condensation in one of the drain tubes (go figure), resets and restarts system and viola, its putting out heat again. Well, that should do it, but you really need to have us perform an annual maintenance to ensure system is running optimally, and oh by the way, since this was a different issue (albeit undefined), you owe us another deductible. Huh?
The tech leaves and fast forward another 3 days…. go figure, the furnace stops working again. Having no intention of bringing out another “Honest Guys” tech, I call them back with intention to communicate just that, and the situation goes even further off the rails! I ask to speak with an owner or manager and am told, “that’s me”. After refusing to provide his first and last name when I asked...

Clean & Check

Got a clean & check done on my A/C unit. Mike came out. He was very knowledgeable and professional. Price was reasonable too! Honest Guys even changed out my furnace filter for me. I definitely use them again and refer to my friends.
