Ancona School, established in 1962 and based in Chicago, is a Montessori-based, independent school educating children in preschool to eighth grade. Its curriculum includes language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, Spanish, music, art and physical education. Beginning in kindergarten, students are introduced to audiovisual and technological resources, such as videos, laser disks, CD-ROMs, and interactive software. The third-grade students learn to use reference materials and research techniques using online resources. Ancona has computers in every classroom, and the fifth- to eighth-grade students use a variety of technologies in their biodiversity life sciences curriculum. The school is affiliated with the American Montessori Society, and is accredited by the Independent Schools of the Central States and the National Association of Independent Schools. Ancona's library and classrooms are connected to the Internet via a wireless network.
