Established in 1924, the American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency that works to improve public health and spread medical awareness. It promotes heart health through advocacy, fundraising, research, and the education of the public and health professionals. The organization is divided into the National Center, which is in Dallas and other affiliate offices throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The American Heart Association has expertise in providing information about diseases, such as cholesterol, diabetes, heart attack, arrhythmias and high blood pressure. It also operates the American Stroke Association, which focuses on reducing risk, disability and death from stroke through medical research and education. The American Heart Association maintains a location in Chicago.
