In 1995, Glencore International of Switzerland formed Century Aluminum Company as a holding company for its aluminum-producing assets. The company specializes in rolled producing products. From 1995 to 1998, it invested nearly $130 million in its operation in Ravenswood, W.Va. It took on major projects, such as new anode setting cranes and central facilities for cleaning spent anodes in its reduction plant. The company also took on a $28 million project to double the rolled products plant s capacity to produce heat-treated plates. Century was primarily an aluminum sheet provider for the beverage can market, but also supplies premium products to the aerospace, commercial transportation and passenger automotive markets. Century Aluminum Company has a facility in Monterey, Calif.
