My Haymarket Experience

I found myself again at Haymarket. Due to alcohol abuse I was lost as millions of Americans are. I went in and out of treatment but never really understood the true meaning of continuum of care. Haymarket showed me the realistic path to sustained recovery not just detox, a short term treatment plan and out the door. My travels brought me from detox, 28 day program, in patient recovery home, Intense Outpatient care and Independent Sober Living Environment. I stayed at Haymarket for 10 months. They gave me the tools I needed for sustained recovery.

HAYMARKET IS NOT THE PLACE FOR RECOVERY!

I am a recovering alcoholic who struggled with addiction to drugs as well since the age of 15. I have witnessed severe alcoholics, lose their lives over this debilatating disease. However, at Haymarket, Alcoholism takes a backseat to cocaine addiction and Heroin addiction. I refered a friend, whose disease has progressed very quickly in a very short period of time to Haymarket after abandoning her 3 young children, and to make a long story short....continued to make decisions that created more wreckage in her life. SHE HIT BOTTOM after 4 years of this lifestyle. I need to mention that we witnessed her mother fall on the kitchen floor, dead of sclerosiswhen we were 17.With no insurance, i took her to Haymarket. They told her to go home! She didn't belong! You see she is WHITE. they were ALL Black and Crack addicted. They excluded her, held NA meetings only and wanted NO PART of the white girl. THE IGNORANT, UNEDUCATED STAFF, TOLD HER TO LEAVE. COME BACK WHEN U SMOKE CRACK.
