Pete Batra, MD, FACS, is a fellowship-trained rhinologist and anterior skull base surgeon who serves as the Stanton A. Friedberg, MD Endowed Chair in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He is a professor in Rush Medical College and serves as the co-director of Rush Center for Skull Base and Pituitary Surgery and medical director of the Rush Sinus, Allergy, and Asthma Center. He is the co-chair of the Rush University Medical Group Operations Committee.
His previous academic positions include co-director of the Comprehensive Skull Base Program at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and Section Head of Nasal and Sinus Disorders in the Head and Neck Institute at Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Batra has co-authored more than 190 peer-reviewed articles, invited reviews and book chapters. He has delivered more than 300 lectures nationally and internationally on sinus disease and minimally invasive skull base surgery. In 2015, he co-edited a comprehensive textbook on sinus disease titled Practical Medical and Surgical Management of Chronic Rhinosinusitis.
His distinctions include Best Doctors of America, Top Doctors of Illinois, American Academy of Otolaryngology Distinguished Service Award, American Academy of Otolaryngology Honor Award, Cleveland Clinic Innovator Award, and Cleveland Clinic Head and Neck Institute Teacher of the Year Award. He is a reviewer of multiple scientific journals including the International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology, Laryngoscope and Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr Batra is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and is a fellow of the Triological Society, American College of Surgeons, and American Rhinologic Society.
Dr. Batra believes patients change the way he practices medicine. That human aspect of patient care ultimately drives him to do what he does. He believes close partnership and shared decision-making are key to optimizing patient outcomes.
He has performed close to 3,000 endoscopic sinus and skull base procedures since 2003. His special clinical interests include management of refractory sinusitis and nasal polyps, revision sinus surgery, management of CSF rhinorrhea, endoscopic orbital surgery, and minimally invasive skull base surgery for benign and malignant tumors.
