The University of Chicago's Office of Investments is responsible for managing the University's investment assets, which totaled $8.7 billion as of June 30, 2014. This includes overseeing the endowment to ensure that it benefits both current and future generations of the University of Chicago.
Located in the University's downtown location at N. Michigan Ave., the Office of Investments is made up of six investment teams, led by vice president and chief investment officer, Mark Schmid. Our Investment Committee oversees all aspects of the Investment Office.
The endowment, largely invested in the Total Return Investment Pool (TRIP), accounts for $7.55 billion of total assets. The Investment Committee approves the TRIP Investment Policy with the objective of achieving high returns at acceptable levels of risk. The current portfolio invests in diversified asset classes, including: global stocks and bonds, real estate, natural resources, private equities, and absolute return strategies.
