Koppers is an integrated producer of chemicals, carbon compounds and treated wood products. Formerly known as Koppers Industries, the company serves the aluminum, steel, chemical, rubber, railroad and utility industries. It provides distilling services for coal tar and produces carbon pitch, refined tar, roofing pitch, creosote, carbon black feedstock and chemical oils. Koppers products are used to produce naphthalene and phthalic anhydride. The company also manufactures wood poles for the electric and communications industries. Its other products include asphalt emulsion, coal tar pitch, modified bitumen, reflective roof coating, primers, fabrics, roof cements and waterproofing materials. In addition, Koppers produces distribution and transmission poles, as well as supplies timber piling for marine piling applications. The company additionally operates the Harmarville Technical Center, which offers services for testing and creating new forms of carbon pitch and other chemical products. Koppers maintains one of its plant locations in Clairton, Pa.
