Harvey Mudd College was founded in 1955 by a committee of the Claremont Colleges consortium in cooperation with the family of Harvey S. Mudd. Mudd College is a member of The Claremont Colleges. The college has various academic departments, including biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, humanities and social sciences, mathematics and physics. It also offers study abroad and domestic exchange programs, and special programs and facilities, such as academic excellence, learning and special intercollegiate programs, a teaching and learning committee, tutoring resources, and a writing center. It additionally offers various interdisciplinary centers, including the HMC Center for Design Education, HMC Center for Environmental Studies, Hixon Forum for Responsive Science and Engineering and Center for Quantitative Life Sciences.
