The Kansas Department of Transportation provides a statewide transportation system to meet the needs of Kansas. It oversees the development and operation of railroads, airports, and bicycle and pedestrian trails in addition to roads, highways and bridges. KDOT administers public transportation programs funded by the Federal Transit Administration and the State of Kansas. Both the federal and state programs are designed to meet the transportation needs of elderly persons, persons with disabilities and the general public. The department provides information on travel, traffic, weather, road conditions and scenic byways.
