Received her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed internal medicine residency and chief residency at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. After 6 months as a volunteer physician in rural Kenya, she came to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston in 1988 as a primary care internist. Her practice and teaching are focused in womens health.
