Daniel Popkin MD PhD was born and raised in Nashville, TN. He attended all Nashville public schools until he left Nashville in 1993 to attend Princeton University. In 1997, he graduated with an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology. He than completed his MD & PhD degrees at the oldest and largest NIH-funded program in the nation, Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and stayed on to complete his medical internship and dermatology residency. Dr. Popkin than spent 4 ½ years in Northern San Diego performing biomedical research at the world-famous “TSRI” (The Scripps Research Institute) with Nobel Prize winner Bruce Beutler MD and seeing patients as a private Dermatologist for Scripps Clinic. In 2012, Dr. Popkin and his wife joined the faculty of Case Western Reserve University & University Hospitals where Dr. Popkin established a laboratory studying chronic viral immunology with an emphasis on HIV cure strategies as well as fundamental topics in skin biology and pathogenesis. He is a principle author of a clinical handbook of dermatology, which was published in 2009. The 2nd edition is coming out later this year. He is also published in multiple peer reviewed journals. Dr. Popkin is committed to excellence in patient care and education, for both patients and physicians-in-training. In 2019, Dr. Popkin was finally able to return to the Greater Nashville community with his wife Margaret Mann MD. On a more personal note, I am so excited to finally be back with family.
