- Traditional funerals consist of the arrangement conference with a licensed funeral director, embalming, dressing, and casketing of the human remains, viewing, and a complete funeral service with an earth burial or entombment. These services may be held in a church, funeral home chapel, hall, or synagogue. Cremation is a process for disposition of the human body. The body is placed into an approved combustible container and then placed in a special furnace, commonly called a retort. Under intense heat and flame, the body is reduced to bone fragments, known as cremated human remains. Direct Cremation – Cremation only with no viewing or services. Memorial Service – Service held after the cremation, often an urn with the cremated human remains is present. Service with a Cremation – Complete funeral service with embalming, rental casket, viewing, and funeral service. The cremation is completed after the funeral services. Under the Transportation Security Administration’s Known Shipper Program, Funeral Homes are required to become “known shippers” in order to maintain shipping capability. H. M. Martin Funeral Services, Inc. is a known shipper and can ship anywhere in the United States, as well as worldwide. However, some worldwide shipping regulations make that process slower due to required communication and coordination with the United States Ambassador to the country of destination. Embalming is almost always required for human remains to be shipped. If religious reasons prevent embalming, sometimes the human remains may still be shipped in a different and approved shipping case. Headstone and Monument orders may be placed by meeting with one of our funeral directors. There are many colors, designs, fonts, and sizes available. There is a cemetery charge called a “setting fee” for a stone to be placed once it is received by the cemetery. Different cemeteries have different fees and these fees vary in amount with the different cemeteries. For veteran’s, the VA Headstone is free, but if the burial is not done at a national cemetery, the cemetery setting fee still applies. Please contact us if you are interested in exploring the many headstone and monument options available or if you have questions regarding them.
