Tarkington High School is an educational institution that offers a range of academic and extracurricular programs for students in grades 9 though 12. It enrolls more than 600 students and is accredited by the state of Texas. The school offers classes in mathematics, science, social studies, and technical and career education. It also imparts instruction in fine arts, language and literature, and health and fitness education. Tarkington High School s students participate in a variety of academic competitions, such as debate, literary criticism, one-act play, spelling, number sense, prose and poetry organized by the University Interscholastic league. It maintains a cafeteria and library that stocks a variety of books and online resources for students and teachers. The school provides membership opportunities for the National Future Farmers of America Organization, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, as well as art, drama, international, rodeo and science clubs. Additionally, it conducts volleyball, soccer, football, basketball, tennis, cross-country, and track and field tournaments and matches. Tarkington High School is a part of the Tarkington Independent School District, which governs elementary, middle and high schools.
