Most compassionate vets and staff in the area!

I recently had to take my beloved family member (Luci) to be put down. She was 14 and struggling every day. As pet owners we all understand how hard this can be. First let me say that the staff knew why we were there and offered heartfelt condolences as soon as I arrived. I met Dr. Reagan, who was extremely kind and understood this choice was the best for my Luci.....He explained everything with such compassion....It wasn't easy for Luci to let go....he did not rush or push....Kris was the next in the room...she is an angel!......she helped calm me which calmed my Luci to be able to let go......and all the time they were doing what was less stressful for my pet...... I am forever thankful and grateful that there are truly compassionate vets and staff here.....

Dr. Patrick Reagan of All Pets Animal Hospital in Clovis, New Mexico, is a Miracle Worker!

A couple of weeks ago I got up one morning and couldn't figure out why our 8-year-old Cattle Dog, Lady, didn't jump up and beg to be let out like she normally does. I investigated and discovered that she was unable to move her back legs. Terrible, sad, scary... all sorts of fears of what the problem could be ran through my mind.

My husband and I carried her out to the truck – she weighs over 70 pounds. We got her to the vet's and after Dr. Reagan examined her, he said that she had lost 100% of her back legs – meaning there were no reflexes and no deep pain response – plus she had lost 10% of the reflexes in her front legs. She also had lost control of her bowels and bladder. All of her blood tests and x-rays were normal, with the exception that he found signs of stress, which would be a normal response in an intelligent active dog who didn't know why she could not feel or use the back half of her body.

But young Dr. Reagan had a "hunch." He wanted to give her a steroid injection and keep her overnight so he could observe how her body responded. We didn't want to leave her, she's a rescue with abandonment issues, but he persuaded us that it was the best thing for Lady.

I couldn't sleep that night, I kept praying and reliving our last walk together, which we had done the evening before she woke up paralyzed. Lady and I typically walk at least a mile every day, weather permitting. During our last walk there had been no sign of lameness. I cried, thinking that might have been our very last walk.

By 6 a.m. the next morning, Dr. Reagan found her standing and wagging her tail. Over the next several days, Lady's mobility and reflexes slowly returned. Today, our girl is running and playing like a puppy again!

We love our fur-baby so much. We are very grateful to have her still with us and still functioning. Every day I pray that she will be with us, healthy and happy, for a long time to come.

But we never know, do we, when it is our "last walk." I try to make every day and every walk special, for that reason.

I told Dr. Reagan that I wish we could adopt him!

Merry Christmas to everyone ~ and a Happy New Year!

Unacceptable

I had to switch from All Pets because they use stressful handling techniques. They took my dog to the back to look for a thorn in her paw and wouldn’t let me go with her. She also needed her nails trimmed. I could hear her growling and snapping and completely freaking out and I could hear the vet saying “yep, kicking like a mule” and laughing about it. She was struggling for what seemed like forever and I could hear them clipping her nails when the doctor walked by with the magnifying glass-he hadn’t even started looking for her splinter! I stopped the Dr. and told him that I wanted my dog back NOW!! They led her back into the room with me while she was slipping and sliding at a full run at the end of her line. She ran to me shaking. They told me that they restrain the dogs by rolling them onto their back and holding them down. I have watched a three hour seminar on the importance of low stress handling because it is so easy to create aggression in dogs-and how stressful it is to roll a dog onto their back. If a dog is placed in a stressful position where it is struggling it should only be held that way for a second or two and never longer than three seconds. She never had a problem with nail trims prior to that and has no problem if handled properly. The fact that they would make her think she was absolutely going to die and then hold her like that for an extended period for no reason and not even start looking for the thorn shows a complete lack of compassion and is unacceptable. Studies have been done and the information is there-this clinic is barbaric.

WHAT A JERK

So this happened 2 hours ago, I called "dr" Hudson for an emergency call. I have an english bulldog who developed a mass in his neck right next to his throat. This breed already has a difficult time breathing and this mass developed he was really having issues breathing. I also noted that on my dogs side he had a hole about 1/2 inch in diameter that had just appeared earlier in the day. I had noted the hole and because I am in the medical field decided I could treat this wound. I shaved around it and treated the wound and got it all cleaned up. Later in the evening when the mass was found and the breathing problems started I decided this was more than just your basic injury. I called the "DOCTOR" at 10:10pm prepared to pay the inflated emergency cost to save my dog. When "DR" Hudson answered the phone I explained my situation to him, his reply was " one man cant work 24 hours I stop taking anything after 9pm if your dog is that important and you need a vet at 10:10 at night then lubbock has a 24 hour vet clinic". I was completely appauled by this mans lack of caring. He wanted to send business 90 miles away instead of doing his job and helping an animal. I guess his inflated emergency costs was not enough reason to get up and save an animal. I always thought people went into the practice of being a vet to save and help animals. I now believe this guy just dont care either way with comments like if your dog is that important go to lubbock. Well "DR" Hudson I made one phone call after you to the vet in Portales and they were VERY helpful and they will be the ones getting my business from now on. I will make it my new mission to make sure any animal owner/lover knows exactly what kind of person you are.

Not the nicest folks.

So, this happened about a year and a half ago- and I'm STILL annoyed at Dr. Hudson. I had a brand new Shar Pei, who we had got just a few days prior. He had his first round of shots about a week before we had taken him in to get his microchip (which was simply a priority for us). Upon entering, Dr. Hudson didn't even say hi, didn't greet my dog, didn't introduce himself (I knew it was him because of the pictures on their website), and just asked me about why I'm not getting him his shots. I explained that he was up to date at the time, and asked if he knew anything about Shar Pei - as they are often misdiagnosed with problems they don't have due to the fact that their breed DOES have a lot of problems. He said, "I know that they have a lot of problems. I've done plenty of surgeries on them because they always have to get surgery. . . " (trying to lighten the mood, i said, "Oh, the face lift", "It's called entropion, OK?" Not enough room to type how jerky this guy was. Screw em!
