I called Thomas at T.A.S. Hearth and Patio in Cobleskill and asked for a quote on replacing the gasket on the door of my Thermo wood stove. He said “around $60-65”. I brought the door to his location (approximately 50 miles round trip) on 12/7/17. He told me my door took a special type of gasket and he had done one a couple of day’s previous. He looked to see if he had any of the gasket left. He said he would have to order it and it would take 3-4 days to arrive. I told him I needed to start my stove ASAP so he looked over his stock of gaskets and found one he thought would work. I left the door with him to have the gasket done. The next day I picked up the door with a new gasket installed. Instead of $60-65 he charged me $120 for his work. I put the door back on the stove but the gasket was so thick I couldn’t close it. I called Thomas immediately and he said he’d order you a new gasket. This was 12/8/17. I called him on 12/12/17 and he said the new gasket hadn’t come in and that he’d call when it arrived. He called me on 12/18/17. I took the door (again) to Cobleskill. I waited 3 hours for him to install the new gasket. When I picked up the door the control handle had been broken. I showed it to him and his reply was “so what do you want me to do about it.” I said I wanted him to fix it! I also noted the gasket he just installed was almost as thick as the first one. He said if it doesn’t fit bring it back. I told him that as a professional he should have known the gaskets wouldn’t work and that he had cost me time, gas and wanted me to come back again? I told him that for $120 I shouldn’t have the same problem I had two weeks ago. He got very agitated and threw $200 at me and said “I don’t need people like you. Take the money and leave.” I took the $120 I paid in the beginning and told him I would not do business there again. I feel Thomas were very rude in dealing with me and very unprofessional. I would not recommend T.A.S. to anyone.
