I have had pets my whole life and my pets have never had a veterinarian as intelligent, as thoughtful and as thorough as Fawn Stevenson. I transferred my three dogs to her office as soon as she came to Cohasset. The dogs were rescues and were muzzled and feared by their prior veterinarians and their staff.
Fawn can relate to her patients in a way that I have never seen. Her staff is great as well. Vet visits no longer involved muzzles, and the dogs were met by their vet sitting on the floor w/ the staff involved at the time.
What used to be a nightmare to go for vet visits has become so easy. Thank you, "Crazy Paws" and thank you, Fawn!

i submit a copy of the letter i sent Crazy Paws back on June 28, 2008:

Dr. Conard & Dr. Stevenson:

My kitty, Sampson, was a patient of Dr. Stevenson’s from April 18, 2008, until he passed on June 8. I phoned your office shortly after to request a copy of his records for my own personal file. I was asked if I’d like them mailed and I declined, wanting to get them myself.

When I hadn’t been able to come to you for a couple of weeks, due to your hours and my schedule, I e-mailed you via your website to ask they be mailed. I also wanted to speak with Dr. Stevenson about Sampson’s passing. When I didn’t hear back, I telephoned your office June 25 and informed the receptionist of my e-mail requests. She noted them and indicated the records would be mailed.

A few moments later, Dr. Conard called me. He opened by stating that you do not mail records, they need to be picked up ( I should have been told this the first time!). He further informed me that mailing them would incur postage (42 cents), an envelope, and a trip to the post office (around the corner and don’t you need to pick your mail up anyway?). I reminded him that I was a good client and felt his excuses were petty, especially after having spent a few hundred dollars at your hospital. He then added that you do not have the clerical staff to do the mailing (isn’t that included in front desk responsibilities? that also explains why I did not receive a sympathy card like I did from other hospitals) because you “are a very busy facility.” To which I could only immediately respond with a “wow”, (complete unbelief at his belittling demeanor.)

I cannot begin to express how insulting his comments were. If you have ever been close to an animal companion for over 18 years and nursed him through a few illnesses which ultimately took him from you as you watched, you would know the heartbreaking grief and sense of emptiness I now feel. To be your client and spoken to as I was at this time is unacceptable. You must understand that even though you specialize in veterinary medicine, it is the animal’s caretaker that hires you and can fire you. Your involvement should extend beyond the patient’s life and aid the caretaker as well by providing easy reception of records, acknowledging loss by sending a sympathy card and informing clients of options after their beloved has passed. Granted, with death, you have lost a patient, but you needn’t lose a client as well!

Lastly, I came to Crazy Paws and Dr. Stevenson because of a word-of-mouth reference; it is good advertising to be referred by a satisfied client. As a volunteer at an animal shelter, I come in contact with many pet owners. I reported to Dr. Conard I would not be referring anyone to Crazy Paws, based on his behaviour towards me.
