Boswell Energy Center is a branch of Minnesota Power, which provides electricity to northeastern Minnesota. Minnesota Power services a nearly 26,000-square-mile electric service territory of more than 15 municipalities with approximately 135,000 customers. The company has electric transmission and distribution lines in excess of 8,500 miles. Minnesota Power owns and operates nearly 180 substations with a capacity of more than 8,500 megavolt amperes. The company generates and buys power generated from a variety of sources, such as coal, gas, biomass and wind. Minnesota Power was founded in the 1870s and has since grown through a variety of acquisitions. Boswell Energy Center maintains its headquarters in Cohasset, Minn.
