The Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institutions Division, governed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, was founded in 2003. The division is responsible for confinement, supervision, rehabilitation and reintegration of adult felony offenders. It manages and oversees various prisons, jails, medical complexes, and psychiatric, transfer and substance abuse facilities throughout the state. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice Correctional Institutions Division is also responsible for several support operations, such as correctional training and offender transportation. In addition, the division offers adult education programs for individuals above the age of 17. It develops specifications for items used in laundries and kitchens.
