We were given a bid/estimate of work to be done at the jobsite for our new home. That bid/estimate came in at $12,953.00. However they covered themselves because at the top of the estimate they stated that all work would be done by the hour. Chiddix Brothers were met several times at the job site so they knew what they were expected to do – no surprises. They held themselves out as professionals. When the invoice came in at $21,304.48 it was quite a shock. That is 40% more which to me is quite a spread. This was no boulders to be removed and good soil. When I called Chiddix Brothers office to ask if this was correct and was there anything that could be done I was called by Seth Chiddix. I told Seth that after reviewing the billing the item that seemed out of proportion was the trucking. I told Seth I had sat at the jobsite watching for about an hour and they were only putting on scoop from the loader in each truck Seth became angry and said that was just not true and they always put in at least 2-3 scoops in each truck. If I was saying that then I must need remedial arithmetic to learn 1 from 3 and probably needed glasses. If you are getting an excavation bid go to someone else. I would never recommend them to anyone.
