Established in 1874, Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind is a state-funded school within the Colorado Department of Education. It provides educational services for visually impaired children and children with hearing disabilities. The school for the deaf provides academic programs for students with hearing disabilities in grades kindergarten through 12. Its academic program includes various courses, such as social studies, English, science, mathematics, physical education and special needs. The school for the blind offers various academic, social and compensatory skills programs for students up to 21 years of age with visual disabilities. The school offers instruction in various skills related to blindness, including orientation and mobility, Braille, abacus, adaptive living, and adaptive and computer technology.
