The Recycling section provides curbside recycling services for approximately 29,000 residential and commercial locations in the City of Columbia in South Carolina. It collects newspapers, magazines, plastic bottles, aluminum and steel cans, and brown and green glasses. The section offers an e-waste recycling program for the recycling of old computers, televisions and other electronic items. The Recycling section also provides office paper and commercial recycling programs. It is a part of the Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department, which offers animal control and forestry and beautification services. The department operates a street division that is responsible for the maintenance and repair of potholes, concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Its traffic engineering division administers the design and coordination of traffic control system.
