Provided by YP.comI was in Palmetto Strings when the lady making the negative post came in. She even called back to the shop to tell them to "watch for the post I'm going to make". I was looking at and trying instruments in the next room not 20 feet away. This person came in and was extremely belligerent because the shop has a 3 month minimum rental on fractional instruments. I have know and done business with Gregg for OVER 10 years both here and at his previous location. He has ALWAYS been most helpful and accommodating when ever possible. He strives to teach and educate his customers about their instrument or anything else they have a concern about. I actually felt bad for all the people there with the way this person treated THEM. The nerve to have another shop repairing their instrument and then expect Gregg to rent her an instrument while someone else repaired theirs.

Provided by YP.comI can't even give this company one star. I have been playing the cello for 30 years. I say this because I have accumulated many years of costumer service in this arena and most certainly know the instrument. I called this company and expressed interest in a short term rental. I was ensured that was a possibility and to come down to the shop. Upon entering the building, I was greeted by the man I spoke with on the phone. He gave me a half hearted and insincere apology stating I made the trip for nothing. Apparently they are not willing to do short term rentals. I immediately offered to rent the cello for a longer period of time. My son has an upcoming recital and needs practice. Another gentleman (if you can call him that) came into the room and was inexcusably rude. I have been using the same local luthier for almost 15 years. He does great work and restored my 1898 french cello. He is also who I hired to repair my son's scroll (which is why we needed a short term rental). They immediately began disparaging his work and his character. The store owner made some ludicrous claim that the scroll would likely fly off and hit my son in the head due to poor repairman ship. In all of my 30 years of cello playing...I have never once seen a scroll fly off and hit someone in the head. By this time, my son was getting visibly uncomfortable with the tone and attitude these gentleman were displaying. Behind them stood an employee, a young lady, who was also visibly uncomfortable and embarrassed by their behavior. I reached for my son's hand and walked out in the middle of the conversation...which was more like an unprovoked argument in which I was a forced participant. If those reasons are not enough to discourage a visit to this store, this one is a doozey!!! As we walked to the car, my son asked me if I thought they were going to come after us with guns! I know that seems dramatic but that's how truly abrasive they were toward us!

Provided by YPmobileAfter looking up several different people to work on my instrument, I chose to go to Palmetto Strings to get him to look at it and give me an estimate. Within the first few minutes, I knew I chose the right place. You could tell without a doubt that Gregg knew what he was doing. I would definitely recommend going here over anywhere else in or near Columbia.

Provided by YP.comMy experience with Palmetto Strings has been nothing but positive. From the first time i walked into the store I have been treated with respect. My nationality or color of my skin has never been an issue. My questions have been answered and my worries have been taken care of. I would recommend Palmetto Strings to anyone and everyone. While doing business with them I saw many school music departments walk in with instruments to be repaired. I wouldn't take my instrument anywhere else and why not go to where the teachers and professors and professionals go?
Very positive and helpful staff.

Provided by YP.comGregg Lange overhauled my violin with Perfection pegs, and set up the action on my string bass. Both instruments play beautifully now. His work is always done right the first time and reasonably priced. I wouldn't take my instruments anywhere else in South Carolina.

Provided by YP.comFantastic service by people who know what they are doing! Most music stores send your instrument to someone else to fix! Palmetto Strings is a one stop shop. Greg is amazing craftsman! Thank you!

Provided by YP.comAs some one who likes to visit other cities music stores, I find myself glad we have Palmetto Strings here in Columbia. Palmetto Strings is like an undiscovered gem here in Columbia and we are lucky to have it as most cities do not have a full service string shop in their city.. In the last year, I have been to Atlanta, Washington, D.C. and New York music stores. Not only does Palmetto Strings have better prices, but most of the time, they have better instruments. The service is fantastic and everyone is so friendly. I am not sure which fat white guy the earlier review was referring to as there were 2 guys the fit that description when I was there last, there were also 3 Hispanic apprentices working there and everyone was getting along very well. I was treated well and my daughter was treated well. When I need something, I will go back. A+

Provided by YP.comAs a Hispanic or Latina customer of Palmetto Strings I would like to give recognition to the outstanding services it has provided me. I would like to compliment the owner for the craftsmanship that he exudes in the quality of his work. As a repeated customer I can assure you that I have been treated with respect, without racial slurs, or any derogatory comments. I applaud Palmetto Strings for providing an apprentice program to encourage students to learn the art of respecting the quality and time that it takes to refine the delicate instruments that they work on. I would recommend Palmetto Strings to all individuals who enjoy a family orientated enviorment and commendable services.

Provided by YP.comThat if you are white, you may well be subjected to rather awful bigoted comments about people of color if none happen to be present. If you are black or Hispanic, the overweight old white guy probably has more sense than to flap his gums, as you don't appear to belong to his "club." I'd stay away for sure. Not a nice man. Not a nice place.
I'm sorry this customer had a bad experience at our store. He completely misunderstood what I was trying to say to him. He became very beligerant and used very profane language in front of my 3 young female apprentices. He outwardly said F*** you and stormed out the door. There was nothing derogatory or rude said to him. He picked up on one word of a 10 minute conversation and over reacted to it. I strive to treat everyone with respect and have persons of "color" as part of my family. I apologize for any direct or indirect insult this person feels and wish there was a way to contact him to correct any injustice he may feel.
