Founded in 1936, Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests encompasses an area of more than 600,000 acres. The forest provides timber and other wood products and maintains a location in Columbia, S.C. Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests serves as a habitat for several fish, bird, animal and rare plant species. The forest additionally offers various volunteer opportunities. It provides maps and brochures, as well as publishes a range of articles on wildlife-related issues.
