30 minute wait with 7 tables open? And the whole ice cream bar table open. Workers standing around? Where is the manager?

Incredible

What a beautiful old fashioned ice cream parlor. Huge beautiful marble bar and tables for seating. Friendly kids working there. They have fantastic home made ice cream in several flavors. They won me over when they brought me a little pitcher of fudge along with my hot fudge sundae. They have beautiful sodas, and a lunch menu too. We'll go back soon.

Step back into the past

What a rare treat! When I visited in July 2009, shortly after Zaharakos reopened, this restored turn of the 20th century ice cream parlor is very much as I remember it from my childhood forty years ago.

The decor is the star here, and there are some unique treats, such as the Green River flavoring (a lemon-lime concoction) that's great in an ice cream float. Unfortunately, the teenagers who work here did not seem to grasp the importance and uniqueness of the place, so they did not help the atmosphere. I asked, "What's special?" and the young lady was at a loss. Fortunately, it turned out that an older employee was able to steer me toward a couple of things.

But it's not much to complain about--I'm just grateful that someone stepped in and restored this glorious place!
