Alvis House, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, provides services and programs that offer alternatives to incarceration, and facilitate the integration of offenders into the community. The organization has provided residential services, substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, habilitation, cognitive therapy, and monitoring services to more than 1,400 men and women. Its supported living program is a waiver-based program that provides daily living support for individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Federal Bureau of Prisons selected Alvis House as one of the sites in the United States for their pilot project, Transition Skills for Offenders. This program uses various strategies to assist people in making positive and permanent lifestyle changes. It has assisted more than 300 former offenders to find jobs in unsubsidized employment. Alvis House also uses global positioning satellite monitoring in conjunction with electronic monitoring to closely track selected clients.
