I'm a neurologist. I specialize in movement disorders. Patients with these disorders experience involuntary movements, such as tremor or abnormal postures, or have difficulty moving due to slowness and stiffness. I treat a variety of movement disorders including Parkinson's disease and parkinsonian syndromes, tremor, dystonia, ataxia, Wilson's disease, and Tourette's syndrome. I have special training in deep brain stimulation (DBS), a surgical treatment that can help patients with movement disorder y philosophy as a physician is to encourage patients to be as educated as possible on their condition. I try to educate in the office and provide resources for patients to review at home. Patients should understand what is happening to them and what treatments can help them. I want my patients to leave the office feeling empowered about their futur eing a neurologist and a deep brain stimulation specialist has been rewarding. I have had a patient send me a video of himself joyously dancing after undergoing surgery. Another patient proudly told me she was able to cook Thanksgiving dinner for her grandchildren after surgery. Another patient who had been confined to a wheelchair went on to compete in a 10K race after having DBS surgery. Moments like these are why we go into medicine.
