The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, also known as MFCU, is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of health care providers who are accused of defrauding the state of Ohio s Medicaid program. The unit enforces the state s patient abuse and neglect law that protects individuals with mental and physical disabilities, as well as senior citizens from neglect and abuse in long-term care facilities. The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit files criminal charges against individuals and corporations and obtains convictions. It collaborates with various federal, state and local law enforcement and licensing agencies, such as the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Drug Enforcement Administration. The unit is a member of the Ohio Health Care Fraud Task Forces. It is operated by the Attorney General s Office, which represents the legal interests of the state, provides legal advice and engages in litigation on behalf of the state. The Attorney General s office handles legal cases related to consumer fraud, criminal justice, environmental enforcement and civil rights. The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is located in Columbus, Ohio.
