The Secretary of State's Office, administered by the state government of Ohio, supervises the administration of election laws, approves ballot languages, and reviews statewide initiative and referendum petitions. The state's office canvasses votes for various elective state offices and issues, as well as investigates election fraud and irregularities. It operates a division that compiles and maintains election statistics, political party records and other election-related records. The Secretary of State's Office also trains election officials and reimburses counties for poll worker training costs. The state's office appoints the members of boards of elections in more than 85 counties. It files several executive orders issued by the governor.
